Summary of the Choralships Programme

The David Carolane OAM Choralship Programme is open to choral singers aged between 18-30. Please use this form to apply for consideration for selection to the programme. To be eligible, candidates must be aged between 18 and 30 years of age, be a current or recent music student, and bring a strong desire to improve their knowledge of and skills in choral music.

About the Choralships

  • Named after the Tudor Choristers' founder and Music Director of 25 years, David Carolane OAM (1930 - 2022), the Choralship Programme aims to broaden the recruitment base of the choir while providing advancement opportunities to young choral artists. 
  • In doing so, the programme aims to benefit and enrich the local community and beyond by increasing the Tudor Choristers' accessibility and visbility. 
  • Successful candidates will receive an honorarium (payment), a complimentary membership with the Tudor Choristers, opportunity to further develop their music skills, and other benefits. 
  • To be eligible, candidates must be aged between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of commencing, be a current or recent music student, and bring a strong desire to improve their knowledge of and skills in choral music.

About the commitments

Duration of a Choralship, commitment needed, and the honorarium/Choralship fee 

Currently there are up to 4 vacancies per annum

$1000 per Choralship per annum

Commitment expected of Choralship recipients

Rehearsals (usually held in the meeting hall, Auburn Uniting Church, Oxley Rd, Hawthorn)

  • Most Wednesday evenings from 7:30PM - 9:30/10PM
  • Other occasional rehearsals as needed, e.g., dress rehearsal

Major Concerts (dates are to be confirmed):

  • Late April
  • June
  • October
  • December (x2)

Other performance opportunities

  • Occasional and bespoke performances to other audiences

About the Choralships Selection Process

Criteria: After a candidate's eligibility and availability have been established, the current needs of the choir will be taken into consideration to determine which candidate(s) are the best fit.

Audition: The candidate(s) may be invited to audition and/or attend a rehearsal in early February.

Notifications: Applicants will be notified of their progress throughout the selection process. A decision will be made by late February (or ASAP if the application is received later).

Re-application: An unsuccessful candidate may apply again in future. The choir may offer successful applicants the opportunity to continue into subsequent years dependent on performance and demand.

Skills and Interests

As well as singing in the choir, the successful recipient will be asked to share/develop an additional skill (e.g., conducting, composing, accompanying, or a business/organisational skill such as social media, marketing, graphic design). This could be an existing skill or something you wish to learn/develop.
