Paroled Pet Application

Thank you for your interest in adopting a Paroled Pet! Paroled Pets are service or therapy dogs in training that are unable to be certified; or dogs and cats rescued from shelters or surrendered by community members. Paroled Dogs have completed Levels 1 and 2 of training and have received their AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title. Paroled Cats have received exposure to human socialization and handling. In the case of multiple applicants, Prison Pet Partnership (PPP) reserves the right to select the applicant that best matches a pet's needs, regardless of the order in which the applications were received.

PPP’s Application Process

Step 1: Submit Completed Application

Please ensure your application is COMPLETE for consideration.

Step 2:  Application Review and Meet & Greet

PPP reviews all applications for each Paroled Pet and identifies the candidate that is considered the best match. If your application is selected, we will contact you to arrange a Meet & Greet. Whenever possible, PPP conducts Meet & Greets at the prison with the pet’s trainer. Please note, only individuals over 18-years of age can enter the prison, and background checks are conducted for all visitors. Background checks take 2-weeks to process. PPP requests that all household members over 18-years of age attend the Meet & Greet session. If there are children or other pets in the family, a second Meet & Greet session may be conducted off-site prior to adoption.

Step 3: Adoption

Following a successful Meet & Greet with all family members, a PPP representative will finalize your paperwork to complete your adoption! The adoption fee is due in full at time of adoption in cash or certified check only.

Acknowledgement

I understand that completion of this application does not guarantee adoption of this pet and that it may take several weeks to complete the application and adoption process. I understand that if this dog has been released from service dog training, the dog is not a service or therapy dog. I understand that due to this dog’s health, behavior, or temperament, they should not continue training as a service dog. I understand that Prison Pet Partnership staff may stop the adoption process after a Meet & Greet if it is determined the adoption isn’t in the best interest of the pet.
