Moors to Mountains Footwear, Clothing and Equipment Requirements.

Please read the following information very carefully.

It is imperative to wear clothing that is suitable for both the activity and the time of year. Weather conditions can change very quicky while out and about in the hills. All participants must wear sturdy footwear, approved for use for the booked activity. Advice can be found from any reputable outdoor clothing retailer, and I am personally happy to give guidance prior to the activity. If you have not used an item of footwear, clothing or equipment for a similar activity previously, you must seek advice from me on the durability and suitability before the activity takes place.

Unless advised otherwise, a list of items that participant must have on their person (other than approved footwear) should include:

  • Rucksack suitable for the activity. Minimum 20 litres, unless otherwise stated.
  • Waterproof coat is essential, and waterproof trousers advisable.
  • Mid layer, such as a fleece or gillet (synthetic or hydrophobic down).
  • Suitable base layers and walking socks. Synthetic materials and Merino wool work best by wicking away sweat. Base layers should be comfortable enough to wear in hot weather as removing clothing can lead to severe sunburn or even heat stroke.
  • Appropriate trousers, leggings or shorts. Jeans are NOT suitable for hill walking.
  • Hat and gloves, stowed away in your pack if it is not perceivably cold at the start of the walk.
  • IN SUMMER – cap or other sun hat and sun cream! Sunglasses advised.
  • Lunch and adequate food provisions..
  • At least one litre of water.
  • Personal medication, accessible and labelled with dosage information where necessary, including inhales, autoimmune injectors and feminine hygiene products.
  • Headtorch, fully charged or with spare batteries. Always bring a headtorch.
  • Mobile telephone fully charged.
  • Spare warm layers, stowed away for use while stopping for lunch or cold spells.

FAILURE TO PRESENT THE ABOVE ITEMS IS LIKELY TO LEAD TO REFUSAL OF THE PARTICIPANT TAKING PART IN THE BOOKED ACTIVITY as per the Moors to Mountains Terms and Conditions.

Additional personal items that are advisable to bring on an activity for comfort or assistance:

  • High energy snacks and a flask of hot drink if desired.
  • Walking poles.
  • Snood, also known as a “Buff” or “Neck Gaiter”.
  • Insulated jacket, stowed away for use while stopping for lunch or cold spells.
  • Power bank for mobile telephone.
  • Whistle.
  • Insect repellent (very advisable) and tick remover.
  • Leg gaiters.
  • A rain cover for your rucksack, plus additional dry sacks or other waterproof storage bags to prevent items from becoming saturated in heavy rain.

NB Offensive slogans or imagery on clothing can upset other hill walkers and also means that I can't use photographs for promotional uses. Please consider others when dressing yourself.
