Thanks to USA Fencing's Fence the Gap grant program, Boston Fencing Club is pleased to launch a second edition of our coaches training program for local, aspiring coaches from diverse backgrounds. The program is a stipend-paid opportunity to learn coaching skills from BFC head coaches and gain hands on coaching experience.
Timeline: Applications will open on March 3rd and will be accepted through April 15th. Applicants will receive a decision by May 1st.
Compensation: Upon completion of requirements, trainees will be paid a $250 stipend.
Expectations and program components: The cohort will run from May 1st through October 31st. In this time, trainees will take 3 one-on-one coaching lessons (20 min each) with a BFC head coach and observe/participate in two BFC group classes (shadowing to be completed by June 30th).
By October 31st, trainees will also be expected to complete safesport training and attend one or more additional in-person or online coaching education sessions which can include session offered by USA Fencing, US Fencing Coaches Association, or other approved opportunities.
Finally, trainees will be required to spend 5 hours coaching in an outreach setting. Trainees can meet this requirement at a variety of one-off and recurring outreach events. List of events will be shared upon selection for the program and is subject to change.
Upon completion of the requirements, cohort members will be considered priority coaches for (paid) BFC outreach events if they so choose.
The total time commitment for trainees is expected to be ~15 hours (over the course of May-October).
