Time Estimation for Different Types of Tattoos

To help you plan your tattoo, here are some general time estimates for various types of tattoos. Please note that these are approximate times and actual times may vary depending on the complexity and details of the design.

Small Tattoos (e.g., simple symbols, small scripts) Time Estimate: 1-2 hours
Medium Tattoos (e.g., detailed symbols, medium-sized scripts, small animals) Time Estimate: 2-4 hours
Large Tattoos (e.g., large animals, intricate designs, detailed scripts) Time Estimate: 4-6 hours
Full Sleeves or Large Back Pieces: Time Estimate: 10-40 hours (multiple sessions may be required)
Portraits: Time Estimate: 6-10 hours (depending on detail and size)
Custom Designs: Time Estimate: Varies based on the design. A consultation with Kyle will provide a more accurate estimate.

A Personal Message from Kyle Dunbar

Thank you for trusting me with your tattoo. My goal is to guide you through the design process and help avoid common pitfalls, ensuring we create a piece you'll cherish.

Tattoos are deeply personal, reflecting your memories and perspectives, but they are also for sharing. Different body parts expose your tattoo to different audiences, so placement is key. For instance, a phrase on your arm has a different impact than the same phrase on your bikini line. I advise keeping memorials in more private areas, like the upper bicep or chest, to choose who you share them with.

ExpectationsTattoos are an investment, and large pieces are often done in smaller sessions due to the physical strain. On average, I cover 3"x3" to 5"x5" per hour, though realism and color can take longer. Freehand black and grey designs are often the fastest.

DesignI want to tattoo in your preferred style. While I’m known for bio-organic and abstract work, I’m happy to adapt. Just keep in mind that significant changes on the day of your appointment may incur a fee.

Creative FreedomIf you allow me full creative control, I offer significant discounts. Share your budget and the area you want tattooed, and I’ll create something unique at nearly half the usual price. This is a great chance to get a custom piece at a reduced rate.
